Protect Your Domain Name From Expiring

Recently Yatra.com forgot to renew its domain name and it turned out to be embarrassing as well as loss in terms of business for Yatra. The loss is speculated to around 20 crores.

A domain name is important for a business. It brings you business. It is your identity on the Internet. And if you forget to renew your domain, it can cause disaster for your business especially if it is an E-Commerce site.

Here are a few tips to protect your domain name from expiring :
  • Check your domain names' expiration date : Keep track of all your domains expiration dates. Set reminders for your domains and renew them well in advance without waiting for the grace period.
  • Check the reminders : Before a domain is about to expire, the domain providers make it a point to send you multiple reminders in advance. Take them seriously and renew at the earliest. Also once in a week, make it a point to check your SPAM mail, in case the reminders go into them. Add your registrar's domain name in the spam filter's approved senders list.
  • Grace period : Most of the domain providers put your domain in grace period if in case you forget to renew on time. This grace period may range from 2 weeks to 1 month. Take the advantage of this and get your domain renewed.
  • Get your domain locked by the registrar : Domain providers do provide the facility to lock you domain so that it cannot be transfered or deleted by anyone else. This helps against unauthorized transfers.
  • Prefer Private Registration of Domain : If you want to secure your personal information from being exposed, go for private registration of your domain. As it is mandated by ICANN (Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers), each time you register a domain, your private information like your phone number, name, address, etc is made public. One can make this information private by Private Registration.
  • Auto Renewal : Best way to protect your domain from registration is to allow your registrar to auto renew your domain by debiting from your Credit/Debit Card.
  • Book for multiple years : Booking your domain name for multiple years is good rather than renewing it every year. It can also turn out to be cheaper from future increase in renewal fees.

34 things I learned from The Last Lecture - Randy Pausch

Assume that you're on the verge of dying. You've probably a few months to live. You're suffering from some notorious form of cancer wherein you've very less hope of surviving.
And then you think that you've very less time for all the things you wanted to do, for all the things you wanted to say to your loved ones, to your children and to the world.
How would you want your children to remember you? Of what you thought about them? Your feelings for them?
A few days ago I read the book - The last lecture by Randy Pausch. Randy was a professor at Carnegie Melon University and the book and the lecture is about achieving your childhood dreams. But more than that, I found the book as a good resource on parenting.
Here are a few points that I found worth sharing:
1. If I were a painter, I would have painted for them. If I were a musician, I would have composed music. But I am a lecturer. So I lectured.
2. Engineering isn’t about perfect solutions; it’s about doing the …

Disconnect to Connect

For the past couple of days I have been reading on Productivity Tips. Have been scouring various blogs on the same.

One thing that has caught my fancy is Digital Detox. To stay away from all kinds of Electronic Connecting Devices, especially Smart Phone.

I am constantly connected to the Internet via my iPhone. Even while working on stuff that doesn't require me to be connected to the Internet, I keep my WiFi on. And this in turn compels me to check my email or browse unnecessary stuff on the Internet.

This disrupts my thinking process or my work.

Although I love being connected to my friends and family members over Whatsapp and other social networks, I don't want it to be a habit where I check my phone even if there are no new notifications.

Tip: Stay Focused with this little Google Chrome Extension

So here's my plan to Disconnect and be more Productive:
Use Whatsapp sparingly. No forwarding of that joke that you found funny or no unnecessary chit-chat.Put your email in Fet…

First Step Towards Self-Development

Off lately I’ve been constantly thinking and reading about self-development. A topic that I’d read for years while in school and college, but then I totally forgot about it.

A few blogs that I read, my own life, and the random thoughts that strike my mind enforced me to think about my own development.
I observed that I was so engrossed in the outer world. I had forgotten to talk to myself. To think about me.
These days we all are so busy with our mobile phones and the “notification world”, be it email, blogs, twitter, facebook, Instagram, etc., that we’ve totally forgotten our own world. A world where we can be alone and at peace.
Mobile phones have distracted human beings a lot. I can’t comment on all of them, to what extent they are distracted, and whether everyone feels the same or not.
We are constantly distracted by notifications. This constant supply of information in the form of Social Media, News, Blogs or Whatsapp is continuously depleting our concentration.
Our mind shuffl…
