Protect Your Domain Name From Expiring

Recently Yatra.com forgot to renew its domain name and it turned out to be embarrassing as well as loss in terms of business for Yatra. The loss is speculated to around 20 crores.

A domain name is important for a business. It brings you business. It is your identity on the Internet. And if you forget to renew your domain, it can cause disaster for your business especially if it is an E-Commerce site.

Here are a few tips to protect your domain name from expiring :
  • Check your domain names' expiration date : Keep track of all your domains expiration dates. Set reminders for your domains and renew them well in advance without waiting for the grace period.
  • Check the reminders : Before a domain is about to expire, the domain providers make it a point to send you multiple reminders in advance. Take them seriously and renew at the earliest. Also once in a week, make it a point to check your SPAM mail, in case the reminders go into them. Add your registrar's domain name in the spam filter's approved senders list.
  • Grace period : Most of the domain providers put your domain in grace period if in case you forget to renew on time. This grace period may range from 2 weeks to 1 month. Take the advantage of this and get your domain renewed.
  • Get your domain locked by the registrar : Domain providers do provide the facility to lock you domain so that it cannot be transfered or deleted by anyone else. This helps against unauthorized transfers.
  • Prefer Private Registration of Domain : If you want to secure your personal information from being exposed, go for private registration of your domain. As it is mandated by ICANN (Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers), each time you register a domain, your private information like your phone number, name, address, etc is made public. One can make this information private by Private Registration.
  • Auto Renewal : Best way to protect your domain from registration is to allow your registrar to auto renew your domain by debiting from your Credit/Debit Card.
  • Book for multiple years : Booking your domain name for multiple years is good rather than renewing it every year. It can also turn out to be cheaper from future increase in renewal fees.

We Have Lost Touch With Humanity

I was reading Robin Sharma's - "Who Will Cry When You Die?" . Love reading the book because I can start reading from any page. And each small lesson of these little book provides food for thought. I read this book whenever I'm short of time, but want to read. It is great. A small excerpt from the very first lesson of the book: We can fire a missile across the world with pinpoint accuracy, but we have trouble keeping a date with our children to go to the library. We have e-mail, fax machines and digital phones so that we can stay connected and yet we live in a time where human beings have never been less connected. We have lost touch with our humanity. We have lost touch with our purpose. We have lost sight of the things that matter the most. Isn't it worth pondering? We're busy checking our phones and emails every 5 minutes but we forget to check our purpose, our goals and our family members. We continuously try to refresh our news feed on Facebook

10 Things To Do When Your Vehicle Breaks Down

I'd been for a doctor's consultation in Ahmedabad today. While I was going to Ahmedabad, it wasn't raining. While returning back to Gandhinagar, it started raining. It was pitch dark and the visibility was less due to the heavy downpour. And then a bad idea came to my mind. What if my vehicle breaks down at this moment ? So I got my topic for 10 ideas . Here are 10 things to do when your vehicle breaks down: Enjoy the rain and forget about going home. Park your vehicle at some safe place and ask for a lift/free ride. Call a taxi. Call a friend. Walk up to your home. Stay at the same place the whole night and observe the nature and the surroundings. A bad idea but it would definitely be an adventure. ;-) Try to repair the vehicle.  Call a mechanic. Stop a truck and carry it to your place. Leave your vehicle and buy a new one. Very bad idea ;-)
